8.2.2.1.6 Group VB; Nb,Ta

Abstract

This chapter provides photoemission and inverse photoemisison spectra of group VB elements such as Nb (niobium) and Ta (tantalum). The normal emission photoelectron spectra from the (100) surface of Nb recorded using photon energies. Angle-resolved photoemission spectra are recorded from clean Nb(100) and hydrogen-covered Nb(100). Projection of the bulk band structure of niobium and tantalum with even and odd symmetry onto the (100) surface Brillouin zone. Binding energies of occupied surface states and unoccupied surface states on tantalum surfaces are given. Surface core level shifts of surface atoms and subsurface atoms of Ta(111) are tabulated. Angle-resolved photoemission spectra are recorded for tantalum (100) surface Brillouin zone for odd and even symmetry states. k-resolved inverse photoemission spectra are recorded for tantalum (100) surface Brillouin zone. Photoelectron diffraction experiment performed on the (100) surface of tantalum is illustrated.
