Hard magnetic materials: Bonded magnets

Abstract

This chapter discusses on hexagonal ferrite, NdFeB based bonded magnet, Al-Ni-Fe based bonded magnet. Bonded magnets are produced by mixing raw materials of hard magnetic particles, polymer binders and some additive agents. Manufacturing processes of strontium ferrite powder is described. Processing of composite hard magnetic materials and molding is described. Magnetic properties and physical properties of hexagonal ferrite, NdFeB based bonded magnet, Al-Ni-Fe based bonded magnet are described. Effect of volume fraction of ferrite powder on densities and magnets prepared by injection molding of compounds is described. Maximum energy product versus remanence for bonded magnets using various kinds of binders is illustrated. Conditions of the molding variants of hexagonal ferrite base isotropic magnets and anisotropic magnets, NdFeB based bonded magnet, and Al-Ni-Fe based bonded magnet are also shown. The main fields of application of isotropic, hexagonal ferrite based composite hard magnetic materials are FG (frequency generator) sensors and FDD (floppy disk drive) Hubs.
