(Hg,X)Te superlattices

Abstract

This chapter discusses the optical properties of superlattices and coupled quantum-well structures of II-VI compounds. The optical properties of (Hg,X)Te which are directly influenced by the superlattice (SL) nature are reviewed. The chapter talks about electronic states, electron-hole and excitonic transitions, and polariton effects in superlattice in the low-density regime. The modification of the optical properties of superlattices by internal and external magnetic fields is described. The chapter also outlines the magnetic activation of bipolar plasmas and optical gain in high-density regime.
