CdTe/(Cd,X)Te and (Cd,X)Te/ZnTe superlattices and coupled quantum wells

Abstract

This chapter discusses the properties of CdTe/(Cd,X)Te and (Cd,X)Te/ZnTe superlattices and coupled quantum wells (QWs). Most investigations in heterostructures are performed on CdTe/(Cd,Zn)Te, CdTe/ZnTe, and CdTe/(Cd,Mn)Te strained-layer superlattices (SLSs). Electronic states, excitonic transitions in these superlattices and its temperature dependence are described. Polariton effects in SLs and long-period MQWs are discussed. Experimental and theoretical reflectivity spectra for CdTe/(Cd,Zn)Te QWs is shown. The chapter also describes the modification of the optical properties of superlattices by internal and external fields. Transient effects and dynamics including excitonic tunneling in asymmetric double quantum wells (ADQWs) are discussed. The photoluminescence and reflectivity for a coupled and an uncoupled ADQW are shown.
