7.1.5.3 Mn- or Cr-based antiferromagnetic Elinvar alloys

Abstract

This chapter compiles composition, thermal expansion coefficient α, Young’s modulus E and shear modulus G, their respective temperature coefficients, e and g, and hardness Hv data of nonferromagnetic Mn-based Elinvar-type alloys. Young’s modulus E versus temperature for Mn-Ni binary alloys annealed at 1223 K for 1 h after cold-working, effect of quenching temperature on the temperature coefficient e of Young’s modulus and effect of cold reduction in area, R, on the temperature coefficient e of Young’s modulus for Mn-Ni alloys are shown. Temperature dependence of Young’s modulus E for Fe-Mn-Ni antiferromagnetic alloys and various Mn-based alloys are figured out. Young’s modulus E versus temperature for Cr-based alloys containing Re or Rh annealed at 1573 K are also illustrated.
