2.1.1.4.2 Results for nearest neighbour bonds in face- and body-centred cubic crystals

Abstract

This chapter presents results for nearest neighbour bonds in face- and body-centred cubic crystals. In face-centred cubic crystals, the nearest neighbour bonds are of the type ½<110> and within the stereographic triangle. Consideration of the bond order for different h shows that, if the unit triangle is subdivided into regions, then each region has its own bond order. In body-centred cubic crystals, the nearest neighbour bonds are of the type ½<111> and, within the unit triangle. The bond order and the number of atoms of different coordination that can occur are given in table. Regions into which the unit stereographic triangle is divided when nearest neighbour bonds in a face-centred cubic crystal and body-centred cubic crystal are considered.
