Abstract

This chapter discusses electronic structures of 3d transition metals: nickel (Ni). This chapter illustrates i) minority-spin subbands and majority-spin subbands of symmetry, ii) influence of correlations on one particle spectra of the (110), (100), and (111) surfaces, iii) majority-spin energy bands and minority-spin energy bands of nine-layer Ni(001) film, iv) comparison of the projected two-dimensional bands and the bulk band structure for majority spin and minority spin, iv) charge density plotted in a (110) plane perpendicular to the nine-plane slab, v) self-consistent calculation of two-dimensional energy bands along the high-symmetry directions of Ni(100) slab, vi) projected densities of electronic states: (a) central atomic plane; (b) surface plane; (c) surface states in surface plane, vii) contour plot of (a) majority-spin valence charge density b) majority-spin valence charge density for the Ni five-layer slab.
