7.8 Electron spin

Abstract

This chapter contains literature on electron spin. The electron spin leads to Zeeman spin splitting of energy levels which can for example be observed in Shubnikov-de-Haas oscillations. The interaction of the electron spin with the electron angular momentum leads to spin-orbit scattering. In samples containing magnetic impurities, spin-flip scattering destroys phase coherence of the electron wavefunction.
