6 I-VII Semiconductors

Abstract

This chapter describes general properties, quantum-well structures, superlattices, quantum-wire structures, and quantum dots of I-VII semiconductors. Quantum confinement has been reported for CuCl, CuBr, CuI, AgCl, AgBr and AgI. Bulk semiconductor properties of the CuCl, CuBr, CuI, AgCl, AgBr and AgI are tabulated. Energy shifts of Z3 exciton state as result of the quantum confinement is shown. This chapter describes low density regime, intermediate and high densities and dynamical properties of quantum dots. Energy shift of lowest exciton states as a result of quantum confinement is tabulated. This chapter illustrates a graph of ellipticity versus radius of gyration of CuCl nanocrystals in NaCl. Coupling to acoustic and optical phonons is studied by analysing the homogeneous line broadening. Size-dependence of fitting parameters A, B, C is plotted for different radii of the nanocrystals. Size-dependence of confined acoustic phonons is studied by means of size-selective nanosecond pump-and-probe experiments. Pressure-coefficients of the exciton energies are tabulated. Observations of confined biexcitons in luminescence and an intensity-dependent blue shift are reported. Energy splitting is studied by size-selective excitation spectroscopy. Coherent, relaxation and recombination dynamics of the quantum dots are discussed.
