Thermal Expansion and Heat Capacity of Amorphous Metallic Alloys: Interpretation of Their Anomalous Behavior in the Framework of FVM

Abstract

A free volume model analysis upon the thermal expansion and specific heat relaxation peculiarities of glassy metals has been carried out. It has been shown, both theoretically and experimentally, that the processes of viscous flow and relaxation caused by anomalies in thermal expansion and specific heat of glassy metals are governed by one and the same mechanism of structural changes based upon annihilation and/or production of atomic excess free volume.
